Another Podium Finish for J&M Racing!

(04-12-08) This time it took a little more work. The team decided to try something a little different for qualifying this week since it had worked so well on the Super Late Model. Unfortunately, it didn’t work on the Late Model. The car was too loose in qualifying and driver Nick Joanides posted the ninth fastest lap of twenty eight cars entered. It was the team’s lowest starting position of the year.

Joanides however made quick work of the field and moved up to the third position by lap 17. Over the next several laps, the top three cars were locked in a side by side battle for the lead. Joanides had just pulled along side the second place car of Andrew Myers when the caution flag flew at lap 26.

On the restart, Myers and Joanides got by, then leader Mike Johnson, to take over the top two spots. Yellow flags plagued the remainder of the race, setting up another green, white, checkered finish. Joanides made one attempt to get by the leader coming off the final turn, but was only able to get up to the rear quarter panel and was again forced to settle for second place, just 0.266 behind.

Joanides commented, “We were just a little loose off the corner and couldn’t quite get the bite we needed to make a good run at him, but overall it was a good day and keeps us close in the points” Joanides is second in the season standings, just 10 points out of the lead.

The race was taped by the Versus Channel and is currently scheduled to air as the Lucas Oil Motorsports Hour on June 21st, 2008 at 5:00 PM EST.

The J&M Racing Team heads back to the track this Saturday, April 19th for twin 50 lap Super Late Model Races. SEE VIDEO ON THE "VIDEOS" PAGE
