BORENSTEIN RACING CONTINUES MOVING TOWARD THE FRONT!

Nick Joanides and the Borenstein racing team continue to make progress towards the front posting yet again their best finish of the season. The team put in a new motor from M&R Racing Engines during the week which showed significant improvement over the previous motor. Oil leaks however plagued the team in practice, limiting their on track time as they chased the problem. The team still posted the 6th quickest lap in practice and while the car was extremely tight with the new qualifying tires, Nick managed to pick up speed and qualify in the 5th position for their best main event start of the season.

With the outside groove being the preferred line at Irwindale Speedway and the car still being tight handling, Nick starting on the inside lane proved to be a little costly at the start of the race. The race was plagued by two quick cautions in the first five laps and with the field bunched up, Nick was shuffled back as far as the 8th position. Several cautions slowed the event allowing for just 25 laps of green flag racing in the 50 lap event, limiting Nicks opportunities to gain positions. He did however manage to pick up two spots and was battling the 4th and 5th place cars when the checkered flag flew.

In their past four events, the team has posted two top 5 qualifying runs and three top 10 finishes, with the only blemish coming when the ignition failed while they were running in the 6th position, preventing them from being four for four. In just five races, the team is already showing the consistency it takes to win championships and that they can consistently run up front, while knowing there are still areas they can work on to get even better

“Although we appeared to have at least a top 4 car in this race, with all the caution flags, there just wasn’t enough time to make too many moves forward. So we’ll take the 6th place finish and look forward to getting back out at the next race to continue our climb toward the top. Most new teams take months and sometimes even years to become competitive, so I’m really happy with the progress this team has made in such a short time. We just keep getting better and better each week and I know we can still gain a lot more. I would estimate that we are running at about 90% right now, but I can see the areas that we need to improve upon, so I know that once we get the car fully dialed in to 100% of our capability, we’ll be knocking on the leaders door in no time” said Joanides.
