JOANIDES WINS POWERADE AWARD AT COLORADO
Nick Joanides and the Colorfast/Jackson Race earned the Powerade Move of the Race Award at Colorado National Speedway for passing the most cars during the race, to improve on what had actually looked to be a great day, then suddenly turned to a horrible day, but resulted in a solid run.
The team's performance has been great over the past four races and the team looked to continue that trend at Colorado National Speedway and appeared to be well on their way as they consistently posted times among the top 5 in practice and looked forward to a good qualifying run. However, as seems to be the case many times this year, once the qualifying tires were put on, the handling changed drastically and made the car very loose with Nick nearly dirt tracking the car through the corners and resulted in a disappointing 25th place qualifying run, forcing him to again run in the qualifying race to make the main event. The top four finishers would transfer. Nick started fourth and easily finished in the top 3 to transfer and earn the next to last (25th) starting position in the main event.
Since the team was forced to start the race on their qualifying tires, the car was still very loose in the main event, forcing Nick to be very cautious entering the corners. Nick stayed patient and still managed to pick off cars one by one and with the exception of a couple of door bumps, ran an extremely clean race while passing 17 cars and finishing a solid 8th and in the process managed to gain another 50 or so points on the 10th place driver in the point standings as he chases a top 10 finish in the series to qualify for the All-Star Shootout at the end of the season.
"We had such an awesome car all day and apparently just got a real bad set of tires which cost us 3/10th of a second on the track", commented Joanides. "With as loose as it was all night, I'm happy to finish in the top 10 and gain some ground, but I know if the tires would have been the same as our practice set, we would have been challenging for a win, so that's a little disappointing, but overall we turned a bad night into a solid run, so I can't complain too much".
